Under $250: Mule Shoes

The Season's Best Mules for Under $250

The Season's Best Mules for Under $250 by laura-camerlengo featuring zara shoes

I have very strong and happy memories of my mother and older sister, eight years my senior, wearing mules in the mid-to-late 1990s. While other siblings and parents would pick up their charges from school in relaxed fit jeans and athletic sneakers, they both looked effortlessly pulled together in their backless shoes, slim pants and oversized tops. Although barely a tween, I dreamed of reaching sixteen, when I'd finally be allowed to wear heels and get my own pair.

Unfortunately, by the time I was old enough to wear heels, mules were no longer in style, and I had to settle for skinny kitten heels instead. Oddly enough, both kitten heels and mules are back for spring 2014. Now that I am indeed old enough (and then some) to wear the latter, I've been scouring the 'net to learn more about the shoes -- which are the long-standing shoe of the elite, as Caroline Weber explains -- and find myself the perfect pair for under $250.00. I found eight.

Here's to living my childhood dream!

I remember mules being really big around 2001, after 9/11. Any sandal with a strap at that time looked old-ladyish and unfashionable. As I remember, walking in them isn't great...
