If you are a child of the 1980s (or earlier), you may remember ear cuffs, a favorite 1990s accessory. But ear cuffs are not exclusive to the grunge era. First worn by ancient Greek aristocrats as symbols of their wealth and status, the accessories have popped in and out of fashion for thousands of years. Diamond-encrusted versions were worn in the 1920s, complementing the period's cropped hairstyles, and in the 1950s, when they were favored by Marilyn Monroe (above), among other Hollywood starlets. This year, glamorous rhinestone and glittering gold versions of the earrings have appeared in the collections of Jean Paul Gaultier and Rodarte, and on today's It girls, like Emma Watson and Cara Delevingne (below).
I find the one-crystal-ear-cuff-look sophisticated yet funky, but my husband finds it a little scary. (And so do plenty of others.) But what say YOU?
