"The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier" at the Brooklyn Museum

I had the pleasure of seeing The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk at the Brooklyn Museum this weekend. The Brooklyn Museum is the only East Coast venue for this visually spectacular international exhibition -- the first dedicated to the French couturier.

Neon signs welcome audiences into the exhibition and each of its galleries, while talking, singing, and sometimes flirting mannequins interact with visitors as they walk through. (These effects are achieved by projecting videos of different models on otherwise bare mannequin heads.) But more than exciting special effects, the exhibition presents a rare and wonderful look at Gaultier and his design process. I enjoyed reading the show's object labels, and learning how long it took to create each of the haute couture garments on view (typically 100+ hours).

Enjoy my snaps from the show on the STYLE, SHE WROTE. Facebook page, and learn more about the amazing exhibition and when YOU can visit it here.
