The iconic fashion styles and trends of the 1990s -- leggings, neon, grunge, to name a few -- have returned over the past several seasons, but it's the revival of underwear-as-outerwear that I'm most excited about. No, I am not talking about the whale tail's comeback -- let's hope that never returns -- but the resurgence of slip dresses. The lingerie-inspired dresses first appeared on John Galliano, Calvin Klein, and Narciso Rodriguez's runways in the late 1990s, but are perhaps best remembered on the backs of It girls like Kate Moss and Courtney Love. If worn right (read: tastefully), the dresses sensuously cling to the body and offer subtle glimpses of what's underneath without being too risqué. Although slip dresses were seen on many of the Spring/Summer 2014 runways, I'd opt for Nasty Gal's soft embroidered version ($108.00, NastyGal.com) or for one of the many vintage slips available on Etsy.com. For a thoroughly 2013 take on this old school style, pair with a cozy pullover sweater, opaque tights, and suede booties.
