This Thursday marked International Cat Day, and Vogue magazine (in a rare yet refreshing moment of whimsy) dedicated this week's online content to all things feline.
Vogue's furry fashion features range from Grace Coddington's illustrations of Punk cats for a fictional felines-only Met Ball to a slideshow of cats from Vogue's archives. The magazine's online efforts reflect the fashion industry's love for cats, especially as design motifs. This summer, Dsquared2 offers key chains, beanies, tees, button-ups and shoes boldly decorated with a sweet Siamese cat, while Derek Lam and Victoria Beckham feature subtle cat prints in their womenswear collections. Why cats, you ask? Well, in addition to being perceived as spiritual guardians (among other positive omens) since antiquity, cats are quirky, cute and just plain fun. And I don't know a serious fashionista doesn't want to have a little fun with her wardrobe every now and again.
