DIY: Uptown Clutch

I finished a two-part sewing class at Spool last week, where I made this Uptown Clutch. The pattern is from Bags: The Modern Classics, an easy-to-follow book with over 100 full-sized patterns and detailed instructions on how to make clutches, handbags, backpacks, and more. The pattern was pretty easy to work with -- even if you only know sewing basics -- though there is an inordinate amount of cutting involved before you start sewing (about two hours worth). Although the book recommends it, I would advise against using thick interfacing; it makes for a very stiff clutch. Instead, use two layers of thin interfacing (on both the interior and exterior pieces). If you are new to sewing, you will learn how to make pleats and attach a magnetic snap with this pattern; both are handy sewing skills to have!

Very nice! I really like the wood-grain look of the print as well as the pleating details!
