F4T: "Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective" and Lillian Bassman Slideshow

Thursday, February 16

If you are in the Mile-High City between March 25 and July 8, 2012, stop by the Denver Art Museum to see Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective. This exclusive U.S. showing of the international exhibition features 200 haute couture garments by Yves Saint Laurent spanning his forty-year career. The show kicks off with his designs for Christian Dior in 1958, and concludes with his evening dresses from his last collection in 2002. Also on view are photographs, drawings, and films that trace the development of Saint Laurent's style and his sources of inspiration.

And if you want to see beautiful fashions from the comfort of your couch, check out The Cut's slideshow of fashion photographs by the late Lillian Bassman, who died Monday. Known for her high-contrast black and white photographs of impeccably dressed women, she is considered to be one of the greatest fashion photographers of the twentieth century. Among the many amazing pictures is this image for a 1960 Chanel advertising campaign.

Wow...great info! Thanks for sharing! I believe that YSL and Dior were genious. They defined Haute Couture! However, for me, Coco Chanel represents what 'elegance and chic' should look like...:) xoxo

I just loved those black and white photographs. There is something special about the contrasts and the lack of colour; just grading from black to white.
