F4T: Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum

If you've ever missed a fantastic fashion exhibition because you didn't live near the host museum -- and haven't we all? -- you will be happy to know that Valentino Garavani is launching a museum that you will be able to access from your living room couch. (Are you smiling like Julia Roberts yet?) The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum will feature over 300 iconic dresses from Valentino's 50 year career, including Julia Roberts's 2001 Oscar gown. The dresses will be shown alongside Valentino's sketches and design notes in 3-D galleries set in real museum-like wings. (The designer would have needed 107,500 square feet of space to show this in an actual museum!) The house's fashion illustrations, advertising campaigns, editorials, red carpet images, and 95 fashion shows will also be available on the website. Valentino stated, "I see [the Museum] as part of my legacy...I am happy that thousands of students, young designers, and fashion people will be able to see and study my work...and in a manner easy and accessible for younger generations...It is important to remember things of the past, to review the fashion that has shaped our lives." The website launches on December 5th.
