Tried & Tested: Karl Lagerfeld for Macy's Impulse

Monday, September 12

After much anticipation, two dresses from Karl Lagerfeld's Macy's Impulse line arrived in the mail yesterday... and I couldn't be more disappointed.

Let's start with Lagerfeld's Long Sleeve Triangle Pattern Sweater Dress (above). The sweater is super soft, but it's strangely sized. I normally take a extra-small or a small in dresses, and ordered this dress in a extra-small so it would have a snug fit (like it does on Coco Rocha). The dress appears to be a full size bigger than what it's labeled; I could probably fit Lynnie in it with me! Alas, it must go back to whence it came.

My second purchase was the Sleeveless Contrast Collar Textured Dress. The dress fit true to size and was figure-flattering, but I found the synthetic fabric cheap and nasty -- and not worth $124.00. My bigger issue, though, was the dress's large collar. I thought the collar was made from a stiff cotton, but it is actually cardboard wrapped in synthetic satin. (Gross.) While it looks great on the model, in real life it looks like a neck brace.

On the plus side, I will get to keep this cute Lagerfeld for Impulse garment bag (free with Lagerfeld purchase on Macys.com.) Score!

I'm so disappointed to read this review! I was looking forward to this line - since Macy's is looking to have success similar to Target's designer lines.

Oh no! I'm so sorry that it's so disappointing! I was going to order something online but I think I'll run to the stores to check it out in person first.

Very few of these collaborations are actually worth while isn't it? I had heard the same about the Lanvin stuff too! Oh Well!

P.S. Coco Rocha doesn't half this good in real life (in my opinion) So skinny and frail in person!!!

I love the dress in the second picture. The black and white is very classy.

Guh-I hate when the order doesn't live up to your expectations! So glad I saw your review of that shirtwaist dress-I was ready to pull the trigger!

i hate it when that happens. once i bought a whole list from asos and everything was just rubbish. the dress i ordered wasn't the same one, the necklace was gold instead of silver...to cut it short, i had to return everything back. what a disappointment!

Oh, that makes me so sad! Both of them are so gorgeous in pictures! It is too bad they didn't work out. I'm frustrated and I wasn't even the one to get them! I just hate unhappy endings, especially when they have to do with shopping.

UGH! That is so disappointing! It always makes me upset when a designer puts their name on something but doesn't really make a quality product...especially at those prices! But definite score on the Lagerfeld bag (c:

Coco Rocha made all of the difference in the marketing of this. She makes Lagerfeld's fab duds look fresh and young. I love the triangle long tee.

The little black dress with the oversized white collar is cute, too bad that they had to cheapen the manufacturing of it. Trying to save a few dollars by using inferior fabric is never a good idea, they may have been able to save some money by making the collar much smaller. Only a person with a swan-like neck, like the late great Audrey Hepburn, could look elegant in that high-rise collar.

Ugh the perils of online shopping and these designer diffusion lines, just so hard to tell what will be worth the $$. Thanks for the honest post....I'll steer clear!

Thank you for your comment !
the dresses do look great on photo, really dissapointing they aren't good quality in reality. But it's often like that with these kind of cheaper collections.
