DIY: Mendocino Sundress

Presenting to you my latest sewing project -- a Mendocino Sundress. I made the dress using the Heather Ross' easy-to-understand pattern of the same name, and with the help of Michelle at Spool in Philadelphia. (Hi Michelle!) The green and yellow cotton fabric was also purchased at Spool.

The dress is fairly simple to construct; the hardest part is sewing the smocked top part, which requires lots o'elastic thread and even more patience. If you've sewn with elastic before, you know the fabric is prone to bunch up as you sew and that the elastic thread has to be constantly re-wound on the bobbin. That said, I still intend to make this dress again.

Shirring is so simple! It's crazy how easy it is to make cute dresses and skirts with the technique.
