Amy Winehouse, 1983 - 2011
Sunday, July 24

Lynnie and I are big fans of Amy Winehouse and were sad to hear that the singer passed away over the weekend. She joins a long list of talented musicians to die from alcohol and drug abuse at the age of 27. Known as the "27 Club", they include Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. and Kurt Cobain, among others. Winehouse's powerful voice and ability to mix different musical genres in her songs skyrocketed her to stardom five years ago with her Grammy-winning Back to Black album. She also quickly became a style icon thanks to her unique look -- her body decorated with sailor-style tattoos, covered in 1950s style fashions, and topped by a sky-high beehive. Recently, Winehouse spread her fashion influence with a limited edition clothing and accessories collection for Fred Perry (below).

Select pieces from the line are still available at ASOS.

May her songs and style live on forever.

Yeah, the 27 club is a bit scary. So much talent! So sad to see her go, but yes, her style and songs (what a strong voice) will live on forever.

oh no...I didn't know she just passed away. That's very sad. It's sad that so many musicians allow drugs and alcohol to manage their life. I guess a celeb life that's constantly under scrutiny is hard.
Thanks for dropping by my blog by the way!

It is a pity that someone that young died. But I hope that young people learn from that... alcohol and drugs are never a good choice!
A great voice disappeared! :(

So heartbreaking when someone so young 'self destructs'. You have chosen beautiful photographs and i am sure that her music will live on.

So young and so talented, this is definitely a huge loss.
It gives me chills to see the date laid out like that. I was born in 83 too. :S
This is a lovely fashion tribute to Amy. I know a lot of people give her smack for her personal life, but we should all realize that she brought a lot of talent and style into this world as well...
You've a lovely blog. :)
