This week, we attended Kara Ross’ Website Launch party. Not only did we mingle with fellow fashion bloggers and Kara Ross’ stylish staff, we also had the opportunity to meet the designer herself and get a firsthand look at her Resort 2009 boutique collection.

Ross, a certified gemologist, combines traditionally high and low materials in her boutique Kara by Kara Ross line. Her unique use of these elements adds unexpected twists to her designs, and makes her pieces simultaneously classic and modern. Take, for example, her Cityscape Cuff (above, $370.00). Inspired by the architecture of New York City, the gemstone, exotic skin, and enamel cuff illustrates Ross’ ability to skillfully play with materials and shapes to create pieces that are tastefully bold.

At the event, we picked up these beautiful Medium Turquoise Hoops (shown on Lyn above and below, $105.00). We love how the turquoise peeks out from the back of the hoop, and adds a bit of color to an otherwise simple silver (or gold) earring. The hoops are also perfectly sized. They’re large enough to be eye-catching – without being tacky.
